Laura Elizabeth Hemmer, 43, of High Ridge has been charged with two felonies stemming from a 2020 fatal crash involving a cement mixer truck. She was driving the truck and allegedly ran a red light, causing the accident that killed a 79-year-old man, the probable-cause statement in the case said.
Hemmer was charged Feb. 15 in St. Louis with second-degree involuntary manslaughter, a class E felony punishable by up to four years in prison, and armed criminal action, an unclassified felony that carries a penalty of at least three years in prison.
A warrant has been issued for her arrest, but she was not in custody as of Feb. 18. She has been ordered to be held without bond, according to court documents.
On June 18, 2020, Hemmer was driving the cement mixer truck, which weighed about 27,150 pounds, south on Hampton Avenue and reportedly ran a red light at Fyler Avenue. The truck struck a vehicle, and a passenger in that vehicle – Alois Unger – was transported to Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, the report said.
Unger died at the hospital on June 25, 2020, according to his obituary.
The collision was recorded by surveillance cameras, the probable-cause statement said.
