A 28-year-old man and a 35-year-old woman, both of High Ridge, have been arrested for allegedly stealing a purse they found at the High Ridge Walmart store and then using a credit card from it to buy items at nearby stores, says Capt. Ron Arnhart of the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.

The victim told deputies she accidentally left her purse in a shopping cart the morning of Oct. 6 and within 30 minutes the suspects allegedly found it and used a credit card from it to buy two cartons of cigarettes at a High Ridge quick store, the Sheriff’s Office reported.

Sixteen minutes later, the suspect allegedly used the same stolen credit card to buy two packages of incense at the Little Store in Fenton, the report said.

Surveillance footage reportedly showed the woman take the lost purse from the shopping cart as she and the male suspect were leaving the Walmart store.

Deputies were able to identify the two suspects and arrested them. Also, deputies recovered most of the stolen cigarettes, the report said.

The Sheriff’s Office will seek charges against the two for stealing and fraudulent use of a credit card through the Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, Arnhart said.
