A 51-year-old High Ridge man has been arrested in connection with the theft of change from the Express Lube carwash in the Old Sugar Creek Center in the Fenton area, says Lt. Gary Higginbotham of the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.

The victim reported the theft at 8:20 p.m. Jan. 6 and said that over several days about $500 in change was stolen, the Sheriff’s Office reported.

In addition, the victim said there was about $1,100 in damage to the carwash, the report said.

Surveillance footage was used to identify the suspect, and he was arrested on Jan. 7, Higginbotham said.

The suspect admitted to stealing $16 in change “to support his heroin addiction.” Also, a deputy found a multi-use tool and a tire iron that appeared to have been used in the theft inside the suspect’s vehicle, the report said.

Another person of interest is being sought in the case, Higginbotham said Jan. 22.

The stolen change had not been recovered as of that date, he added.
