A 40-year-old man and a 31-year-old woman were arrested following an alleged attempted carjacking this morning, May 28, at the Love’s Travel Stop at 1199 McNutt St., Herculaneum Police Chief Sharia Kyle said.
In a written statement, Kyle said officers were dispatched at about 8:30 a.m. to the convenience store for the report of a man robbing another man at gunpoint.
Kyle said when police arrived, officers learned two suspects fled the store on foot toward a nearby wooded area.
She said the victim, a 44-year-old man, told officers that a man pointed a firearm at him while the man and a woman attempted to steal his vehicle. He told police that the suspects fled when the vehicle failed to start.
Kyle said surveillance footage from the gas station provided valuable suspect descriptions. The Herculaneum Police shared surveillance photos of the two suspects on their Facebook page.
She said at approximately 10:40 a.m., both suspects were taken into custody near the store without further incident. She said the apprehension was made possible through the collaborative efforts of the multiple responding agencies who helped secure the area and search for the suspects.
Kyle said reports will be turned over to the Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for review. She did not immediately release what towns the suspects were from.
More information will be released as it becomes available.
