A 41-year-old Franklin County man was arrested for alleged drug possession after he was found asleep in a car at about 3 a.m. Sept. 4 in the parking lot at the Circle K gas station, 18181 Hwy. 66, Eureka Police reported.
Police were called to the gas station because the man was seen slumped in the driver’s seat of a 2002 Mitsubishi Eclipse. When an officer arrived, he saw a purple change purse on the man’s leg that appeared to have a baggie with a white-crystal substance in it, the report said.
When the driver was awakened, he got out of the car and the purse with the baggie fell to the ground. The man appeared incoherent but was able to tell the officer the baggie contained his medication “used to control him,” according to the report.
The man was arrested, taken to the Police Station, booked and released. The substance in the baggie was sent to the lab, and pending the results, Eureka Police will seek a charge of possession of a controlled substance through the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, Capt. David Wilson said.
