Hillsboro R3 Little League investigation, audit underway

The former treasurer of the Hillsboro Little League is accused of stealing $17,309 from the organization over a five-year period.

Angela Dawn Davis, 41, of Hillsboro was charged on Wednesday, Feb. 5, in Jefferson County with four class D felony counts of stealing over $750, each one punishable by up to seven years in prison, and two class A misdemeanor counts of stealing, each one punishable by up to a year in jail or a fine of up to $2,000. She has been issued a criminal summons to appear in court on March 17, court documents show.

The Little League’s had posted a message on Facebook on Sept. 17 that said a Board of Directors member was removed from the board after discrepancies were found during an internal review of bank statements.

Sheriff’s Office deputies began investigating the allegations that day, court records said.

During Davis’ time as treasurer, she allegedly transferred money from the League’s financial accounts to her personal account or used the League’s banking information for non-League needs and expenses. The League’s “financial records check” revealed Davis spent or took $728.81 in 2019; $1,793.39 in 2020; $2,367.21 in 2021; $7,306.21 in 2022; $4,687.39 in 2023 and $426.04 in 2024.

When interviewed by the Sheriff’s Office, Davis allegedly admitted to taking money from the League on multiple occasions without the League’s permission or knowledge.
