A fire destroyed a house on Hwy. JJ north of Valles Mines on Monday afternoon, March 3. No injuries were reported, De Soto Rural Fire Chief Tom Fitzgerald said.
He said the fire, north of Hwy. V, was reported at 1:22 p.m. and upgraded to a second-alarm call to get more firefighters and equipment to the scene.
The De Soto, Crystal City, Festus and Desloge fire departments and the Jefferson R-7, Hematite, Hillsboro, Dunklin and Big River fire protection districts helped with the fire. The Joachim-Plattin Ambulance District and the Eureka and St. Clair fire protection districts also responded to the scene, Fitzgerald said.
Also on Monday, a separate fire destroyed an RV south of De Soto, he said.
The RV, located off Hickman Lane near Flucom Road, was being used as a residence. No injuries were reported and no other agencies were needed to help with the call, Fitzgerald said.
