A woman who fell while hiking at Don Robinson State Park on Saturday afternoon (Sept. 12) had to be taken out on a stretcher and transported to an area hospital, said John Griffith, battalion chief for the Cedar Hill Fire Protection District.
At 1:58 p.m., Cedar Hill Fire got a call about the woman hurt in the park, and firefighters arrived at 2:04 p.m. The woman was about a half mile down the Labarque Hills Trail at the park, and crews located her at 2:28 p.m. and then wheeled her out by 2:50 p.m., Griffith said.
“The trail had slippery spots on it,” he said. “She slipped because of the creek; it was wet, and the rocks were slippery.”
The woman fell and may have broken her ankle, which is why crews wheeled her out, Griffith said.
He said crews used a stokes basket, which is a hard plastic basket, or stretcher, to transport her. Then, the Big River Ambulance District took the woman to an area hospital.
Crews were on the scene until 3 p.m., he said.
Griffith said it’s not uncommon for the district to get calls about someone getting hurt or lost in the park, although the district has not received many this summer.
