A fire destroyed an abandoned church near the New View Stay and Suites motel, 4301 Jeffco Blvd., south of Arnold. A portion of the building collapsed during the blaze, Rock Community Fire Protection District spokeswoman Alyson Rotter said.
Rock Fire was called at 12:07 a.m. today, Feb. 18, about the fire, and the first firetruck arrived at 12:12 a.m. A second alarm was called after firefighters arrived, and the fire was under control at 2:34 a.m., Rotter said.
No one was injured in the fire.
Rotter said the fire was still under investigation this morning, but the fire did not appear suspicious. She said it was not known how the fire started.
The New View Stay and Suites was formerly called the Pleasant View Motel, which dates back to the 1950s. Rotter said there were no reports of other property being damaged by the fire.
The Antonia, Dunklin, Mehlville and Saline Valley fire protection districts assisted on the call. The Rock Township Ambulance District, Arnold Police and Missouri State Highway Patrol also responded to the scene, Rotter said.
