A man died early Friday morning (Nov. 16) when his mobile home caught fire in the 5500 block of Briarwood Drive in House Springs.

A neighbor saw the fire and called 911 at 5:07 a.m. and trucks from the High Ridge Fire Protection District arrived on the scene at 5:18 a.m. Engineer John Barton said.

Emergency vehicles faced difficulty getting through because of the snow- and ice-covered roads, he said.

“When the first truck arrived, they had heavy fire in about 50 percent of the structure,” he said. “The crew immediately made entry through the front door and began a search.”

The man was found in a bedroom of the mobile home, but was already deceased when firefighters reached him, Barton said.

“There was only one male resident of the home, but we are waiting for a positive identification,” Barton said.

The home sustained “significant damage,” Barton said.

After 7 a.m. the fire suppression efforts were over and trucks began to be released from the scene, he said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the High Ridge Fire marshal, as well as the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office and the State Fire Marshal’s Office, although Barton said Friday the fire was “not considered suspicious at this time.”

The Antonia, Eureka and Saline Valley fire protection districts assisted with the call.
