Festus Police patch

Festus Police received two reports about a BB or some other projectile being shot at vehicles during a six-day period this month, but the incidents don’t appear to be linked, Chief Tim Lewis said.

The most recent incident was reported at about 10:45 a.m. July 23, when a tow truck driver said an object struck and damaged the truck window, Lewis said.

“He was driving on Beffa Street at South Adams (Street) when something popped on his front window,” the chief said. “He was driving a 2005 Kenworth tow truck. He didn’t see anything. It could have been a BB gun or a slingshot.”

Lewis said the object left a mark in the windshield.

On July 17, Festus Police got a report that someone in a red Mustang shot a BB gun at a 14-year-old victim while he was riding a bicycle along Collins Avenue.

“We don’t think (the incidents) are related,” Lewis said.

He said Tuesday (July 28) that both incidents remain under investigation.
