police car lights

Festus Police have been cracking down on traffic violations along Hwy. A because drivers keep running red lights along that stretch of road, Chief Tim Lewis said.

He said the situation is particularly dangerous at the intersection of Hwy. A and Pounds Road where motorists are often driving at high speeds as they approach traffic lights.

“We’re out there letting people know that if you’re going to run red lights in Festus, there’s a good chance you’re going to get a ticket,” he said. “There are drivers coming in at 50 to 60 miles an hour or more (eastbound on Hwy. A into Festus). You’ve got people trying to beat the red lights. It’s a dangerous situation.”

He said police also monitor other red lights along Hwy. A, like at Collins Drive, South Mill Street, Gannon Drive, Bradley Street and Hwy. 67.
