Festus Police patch

Festus Police shot and killed a wounded deer on Feb. 10 in the southwestern part of the city.

“We had to shoot a deer behind Kodiak Court off Gamel Cemetery Road about 2:15 p.m.,” Chief Tim Lewis reported. “There was a deer in the woods with two broken legs – probably hit by a car. Officers shot it with a shotgun. There were a couple of people there who said they wanted the deer and we gave it to them.”

Lewis said it’s not uncommon for Festus Police to get calls about wounded deer that have to be killed.

“It happens more than you’d think,” he said. “We have to put down five or six deer a year, most often in the fall.”
