Cotton candy

The night after someone broke into a carnival concessions trailer at Our Lady Catholic Church, 1550 St. Mary’s Lane, and stole six bags of cotton candy, Festus Police nabbed three teens at the same site, Chief Tim Lewis said.

Those teens, all 15 and two of them from Imperial and one from Festus, were arrested about 2 a.m. Saturday (June 3) on the church grounds. Lewis said he didn’t know if they were responsible for the carnival concessions burglary that occurred overnight between June 1 and June 2.

A parish picnic was held at the church June 2-3.

“Our officer was patrolling Our Lady Church grounds when he saw three males run from the concession stand at the carnival,” Lewis said. “A window on the trailer was forced open. The officer was patrolling there because someone had gotten into the concession stand the night before. Another officer arrived and they took the three juveniles into custody.”

The suspects have been turned over to juvenile authorities, Lewis said.

In the first concessions trailer break-in, someone forced open a window to gain entry, he said.

Lewis said that break-in resulted in a minimal return, albeit a sweet one.

“It looks like they were trying to get any change and candy,” he said. “They took six bags of cotton candy. The concession stand owner is doing inventory to see if anything else was taken.”

The investigation is continuing, Lewis said today (June 6).
