Festus Police arrested a burglary suspect March 30, with the help of a Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office police dog.
The suspect, a 21-year-old man now living in Arnold but familiar to Festus Police, ran from officers after they responded to a call about a burglary and disturbance at a house in the 1100 block of Ann Street.
Festus Police got a call about the incident around 6:45 p.m., Chief Tim Lewis said.
“Our officers arrived and spotted the suspect, and he started running,” Lewis said. “They had to chase him. He ran and hid and they called the Sheriff’s Office to bring in a canine. They found him about a block away, around 15 minutes after the canine arrived.”
People who lived at the home said they heard something outside, went outside to investigate and found the suspect attempting to steal fishing equipment from the porch.
“The people confronted him, and he produced a pellet gun,” Lewis said.
Festus Police are seeking a variety of warrants against the suspect, including burglary, resisting arrest, unlawful use of a weapon and property damage charges.
“The property damage is from him breaking some of the fishing equipment,” Lewis said.
He said the suspect was “turned over to another agency that had a warrant for him.”
