Festus Police are investigating an alleged ruse that involved a man and woman working together to steal items from a home in the 600 block of Sunshine Drive in Festus. The female suspect reportedly pretended to work for a tree service company and distracted an older man who lives at the home while the male suspect entered the house and stole items while an older woman was asleep inside, Festus Police Chief Doug Wendel said.
He said the incident happened at about 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 15, when the suspects, who both looked like they were in their mid-20s, knocked on the door at the Festus home and the older man who lives there answered. The female suspect then walked around the property with the man while the male suspect went to sit in the vehicle the pair arrived in. At some point, however, the male suspect went inside the house and allegedly stole some items.
Wendel said the only description the Police Department has of the pair is that they are white and the male may have a slight accent. In addition, the two were seen in a newer-model white four-door car.
Wendel said the Police Department had not received any reports about similar thefts. He asks anyone with information about the suspects or the vehicle to call Festus Police at 636-937-3646.
