Festus Police are investigating a string of recent thefts from vehicles, Chief Tim Lewis reports.
Lewis said victims reported the thefts on Saturday (July 23) and on Monday (July 25).
“The first report, 3:45 a.m. July 23, was on Palliet Street,” he said. “The victim reported hearing the alarm going off on a Dodge van parked in front of his residence. He noticed his keys gone. He’d left the keys in the van. He said the keys and a pair of glasses were gone.”
The second report was called in at 10:20 a.m. Monday on Henry Street.
“It was a Chevy Tahoe,” Lewis said. “A suspect went in an unlocked car and stole two wallets.”
He said he did not know the contents of the wallets.
Lewis said police received several reports of break-ins at 2:50 p.m. Monday from vehicles parked in the 600 block of West Main Street.
“We got calls on break-ins on a white Chevy Cruze, a white Honda Accord and a silver BMW, all unlocked,” Lewis said. “Nothing was immediately known to be missing.”
He said Tuesday (July 26) that the investigation into the vehicle break-ins is ongoing.
Lewis advises people to not leave valuable items in their vehicles and to lock their vehicles.
