Festus Police are investigating two home break-ins that happened Monday (Nov. 27) in the same part of town. In one of the burglaries, the homeowner confronted the intruders and they ran away without stealing anything, and in the other one, guns and other items were stolen, Police Chief Tim Lewis said.
The first burglary was reported about 12:55 a.m. and happened in the 600 block of Barbara Place, Lewis said.
“The victim was home when three people broke into his house,” Lewis said. “He heard a noise in the basement. Apparently, they broke out a window to get in and he heard it. It woke him up. When he confronted them, they ran.”
The other burglary was reported at 3:45 p.m., after the victim returned to his home in the 1500 block of Sweeney Drive and noticed someone had broken in.
“They made a forced entry though a door,” Lewis said. “They stole several firearms, jewelry.”
The stolen items were valued at $2,000, he said.
Lewis said Tuesday (Nov. 28) that the burglaries are still under investigation. Anyone with information is urged to call Festus Police at 636-937-3646.
