Festus Police patch

A 47-year-old Festus man said his car recently was stolen, but he didn’t report the theft right away because he thought a friend may have taken it as a prank. He discovered the car missing on July 19 and didn’t report it until the next day, Festus Police Chief Tim Lewis said.

The car was stolen from outside the victim’s home in the 900 block of South Third Street, Lewis said.

“He came into the Festus Police Department to report a stolen car, a 2009 Chrysler 300,” Lewis said. “He had been on vacation. He left July 11 and returned July 19. He didn’t report the stolen vehicle until July 20. He thought a friend was playing a prank. When he determined it wasn’t (a prank), he reported it.”

As of July 26, the vehicle was still missing, said Lewis, who did not have a value for the car. Anyone with information about the theft is asked to call Festus Police at 636-937-3646.
