A Festus Police officer spotted a pickup with no license plate outside Majik Market, 103 Walnut St., and after learning the truck had been reported stolen from Washington, Mo., arrested the driver. The incident occurred about 1:15 p.m. Jan. 1, Festus Police Chief Tim Lewis said.
“Our officer was on patrol near West Main Street and the Majik Market when he saw a red 1997 Dodge Ram backing out of a parking space, Lewis said. “The driver was a 23-year-old Barnhart man. He later admitted he knew the vehicle was stolen. He was arrested for tampering.”
Lewis said he did not know when the pickup had been stolen.
“The vehicle was impounded, and the Washington Police Department was notified,” Lewis said.
He said the driver was arrested and released pending application for warrants.
