Festus Police arrested a 46-year-old St. Louis man who reportedly was inebriated and had a loaded gun outside of a bar early this morning (Jan. 21), after he allegedly had an argument and threatened to return with a gun, says Festus Police Chief Tim Lewis.

He said his department received a call about 12:30 a.m. reporting that a man had a gun at the Smokehouse Tavern, 1200 American Legion Drive.

“We received a call of a man threatening other patrons with a gun,” Lewis said. “There had been a disturbance, apparently an argument over a relationship. He was thrown out of the bar by a bouncer. The bouncer saw him go to his car and put a gun in his pants.”

The bouncer then called 911 and confronted the man, Lewis added.

Officers arrived to find the suspect with a .40-caliber Glock handgun in his pants, Lewis said.

“The officers saw the gun in his pants and took him into custody without incident,” he said.

The suspect was in custody at the Festus Police Station late this morning, Lewis said.

He said his department will seek second-degree assault and illegal use of a firearm charges against the suspect.
