Festus Police arrested a man on July 17 who was suspected of stealing from cars, and when apprehended, the man reportedly confessed to burglarizing a Festus home.

Andres Larae Tullock, 22, of Festus has been charged with the class D felonies of second-degree burglary and stealing $750 or more. If convicted, he faces up to seven years in prison for each offense.

Tullock remained in the Jefferson County Jail in Hillsboro on $75,000 cash-only bond Tuesday (July 24).

Festus Police Chief Tim Lewis said the arrest occurred shortly after 1 a.m. July 17.

“We were notified of someone stealing from cars by the YMCA (1303 YMCA Drive),” Lewis said. “Officers saw him. He tried to run and officers caught him and brought him in. He confessed to the house break-in.”

The burglary occurred June 15 in the 700 block of Woodrow Street. The probable-cause statement reported that Tullock told police he broke into the residence by cutting a rear window screen.

Lewis said stolen items included jewelry, electronics, headphones and a hunting backpack. The probable-cause statement tallied their worth at $953.99 and reported $30 in damage to the window screen.

The statement also reported that Tullock told investigators “he was high on heroin and he does not remember where the stolen items went to.”

Lewis said his department may seek additional charges against the suspect.

“The investigation is continuing,” he said.

Lewis praised the efforts of his officers.

“This was a lot of good police work by the officers,” he said.
