The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office recently arrested a 20-year-old Festus man in connection with an attempted burglary at a home in the 200 block of Kronos Dr. in the De Soto area. In addition, a 23-year-old De Soto man was interviewed in connection with the incident, which happened at about 7 a.m. Oct. 3, the report said.

A man who lives in the home on Kronos said he heard glass break and then his dog begin to bark, so he went outside and noticed several pieces of his lawn equipment had been moved to the edge of nearby wooded area. The man’s neighbor reported seeing the suspect during that time walking away from the home. A short time later, the suspect was seen in the woods near where the property had been moved, according to the report.

A deputy arrived on the scene and found a black coat and a backpack and car keys near the edge of the woods and shortly thereafter, saw the suspect walking along Kronos. The suspect was questioned, and the deputy discovered that the keys found near the woods went to the suspect’s vehicle, the report said.

The suspect was arrested that day. Later, another person of interest in the case was in custody in a different jurisdiction on unrelated charges and was interviewed. As of Oct. 27, though, he had not been arrested in connection with the incident, Detective Sgt. James Kausler said.
