A 75-year-old Festus man was arrested for allegedly threatening two people in pickup with a handgun during a dispute over noise the truck’s exhaust system was causing. No one was hurt during the incident, Festus Police Chief Tim Lewis said.
He said Festus Police got a call at about 8:30 p.m. June 2 about the incident, which occurred in the 1100 block of North 11th Street.
“There were two victims, a 50-year-old Festus man and a 22-year-old man from Crystal City,” Lewis said. “They had been traveling on 11th Street in a pickup. An argument occurred over the loudness of the pickup’s exhaust system. A 75-year-old neighbor allegedly pulled out a handgun and threatened them.”
Lewis said the suspect “admitted to having the gun, but said he didn’t point it at anyone.”
“We contacted the suspect and arrested him,” Lewis said. “He was released pending issuance of warrants.”
Lewis said a gun does not have to be pointed at someone for it to be considered a threat.
