Festus Police are investigating a stabbing that left a man with life-threatening injuries Sunday night (Sept. 20).
Police Chief Tim Lewis said the incident occurred about 11 p.m. at an apartment complex in the 700 block of North Fifth Street, where a man allegedly stabbed his stepfather.
“When officers arrived, there had been some sort of domestic dispute, and a 45-year-old man had been stabbed,” Lewis said. “We arrested a 32-year-old man for assault. The man stabbed was taken to Mercy Hospital Jefferson (in Crystal City) and later transferred to Mercy Hospital South (in south St. Louis County).”
Lewis said the victim’s injuries are serious.
“He was stabbed in the abdomen and the left part of the chest,” Lewis said.
He said no charges had been filed as of Tuesday morning (Sept. 22) because the incident is still under investigation.
“The stepson was released after processing,” Lewis said “We’re not sure if it was an assault or self defense.”
