A 43-year-old Festus man was arrested for alleged possession of methamphetamine after he allegedly fled on a motorcycle from police but lost control and crashed, Arnold Police said.
At about 8 p.m. Aug. 27, an officer spotted the 2002 Suzuki GSX-R600 on Jeffco Boulevard near Richardson Road, and the license plate could not be read because of how it was hung on the bike. When the motorcycle pulled into the BP gas station at 3700 Jeffco Blvd., the officer followed it into the parking lot, the report said.
The rider kept circling the station’s gas pumps so the officers could not get behind the motorcycle to read the license plate. The rider then allegedly left the parking lot at a high rate of speed and ran a red light at the intersection of Jeffco and Richardson Road, according to the report.
The officer turned on his cruiser’s lights and siren to stop the motorcycle, but the rider reportedly continued to travel west on Richardson Road. However, while traveling too fast and trying to turn onto the southbound I-55 ramp, the motorcycle ended up headed south on the northbound lanes of Vogel Road and hit a concrete median.
After that, the bike went airborne and landed in the southbound lane, and then the rider turned into the parking lot outside the Schnucks grocery store, 3900 Vogel Road, where the motorcycle stopped working, the report said.
The officer got out of his cruiser and ran at the rider, pushing him off the bike and then arresting him. The suspect already was wanted by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office for possession of a controlled substance, driving with a revoked license and a parole violation, the report said.
The officer also allegedly found the man with a substance believed to be meth, a green pill, glass pipes and a digital scale with residue, according to the report.
The man was taken to the Police Station, where he was booked and held for the Sheriff’s Office. Depending on results of the drug analysis, Arnold Police will seek charges against the man through the Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia, along with careless and imprudent driving and failure to yield, Detective Lt. Jason Valentine said.
