A 34-year-old Fenton man was shot in the abdomen Friday evening (April 24) during a fight with his brother, a 30-year-old Hillsboro man who has been arrested in connection with the shooting, says Capt. Ron Arnhart of the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.

At 5:48 p.m., the two brothers were at the 34-year-old’s home in the 800 block of Briny Lane in Fenton, where he lives with family members, and they got into an argument “about a personal matter” that escalated into a “physical struggle,” Arnhart said.

Both men got out guns – the 34-year-old a shotgun and the 30-year-old a handgun – and during the struggle the handgun went off, striking the older brother in the abdomen. He was transported to an area hospital, where he was still being treated this morning (April 27), Arnhart said.

The victim is expected to recover, Arnhart said.

He said the Sheriff’s Office is seeking charges against the 30-year-old, but as of this morning, none had been filed.
