A 41-year-old Fenton man was arrested for suspicion of driving while intoxicated after allegedly driving erratically in Eureka. Police were contacted at 8:23 p.m. June 16 about a 2012 Ford F150 that had crossed the center line of Hwy. 109, and an officer spotted the pickup a short time later pulling into the QuikTrip gas station, 290 East Fourth Street, Eureka Police reported.
The pickup pulled up to a pump, but no one got out of the vehicle before it left the gas station and headed east on Fourth Street before stopping at a traffic light at Hwy. 109. When the pickup made a left onto the highway, the vehicle allegedly swerved and the driver appeared to struggle to keep the pickup under control. Then, the pickup again swerved when the driver turned right on I-44, the report said.
The officer then pulled over the pickup on the interstate, and the driver allegedly had a strong odor of alcohol and slurred his speech. The man initially denied consuming alcohol, but later he allegedly said he had drunk eight beers at a baseball game, according to the report.
He refused to take a field sobriety test and was arrested and taken to the Police Station, where he refused to take a breathalyzer test, the report said.
The man was released to a family member with a summons to appear in Municipal Court for DWI, Capt. David Wilson said.
