A 35-year-old Fenton man was arrested for alleged counterfeiting after he reportedly tried to buy something at the U Pump gas station, 501 Jeffco Blvd., in Arnold using a counterfeit $50 bill. The incident happened about 9:35 a.m. Sept. 1, and the man fled when the clerk refused to take the bill and said police were being called, Arnold Police reported.
The suspect, who previously worked at the gas station, allegedly passed or tried to pass counterfeit money at other Arnold businesses. The suspect was identified and listed as wanted, Lt. Clinton Wooldridge said.
He said printers and other items believed to have been used to counterfeit money were found at the man’s home.
The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office picked up the suspect, and at about 5:10 p.m. Sept. 4, Arnold Police went there and took him into custody. The case has been turned over to the U.S. Secret Service, Wooldridge said.
