Saline Valley Fire Protection District

An afternoon mobile home blaze Feb. 26 displaced a Fenton-area woman and a cat, and her dog cannot be found, Saline Valley Fire reported Monday.

Fire Marshal Ryan Lesh reported that at approximately 2:10 p.m. his district responded to a call of a fire at a residence in the 700 block of Cambridge Lane in the Chancellor Farms Mobile Home Park. The woman, who owns the structure, was not at home at the time of the fire.

Upon arrival, firefighters encountered heavy smoke coming from the front door of the residence. Firefighters had the fire under control by 2:51 p.m., Lesh said.

“There were no injuries to firefighters or civilians, but one canine was unable to be located,” he said. “A neighbor was able to rescue a cat from the residence prior to the arrival of the fire department.”

Firefighters left the scene about 4:30 p.m., he said.

Lesh said the cause of the fire remains undetermined, but it is not considered to be suspicious. He said the mobile home “is probably a total loss” and the district notified the American Red Cross to assist the woman.

The High Ridge and Fenton fire protection districts, Rock Township Ambulance District, Jefferson County 911 Dispatch and Ameren assisted with the incident. Antonia Fire Protection District moved up to cover Saline Valley’s other calls.
