Five family members escaped unharmed from the basement of a home that was destroyed by fire Monday night (March 18) on Bluff Park Drive west of Arnold, the Rock Community Fire Protection District reported.
Rock Fire received a call at 9:40 p.m. about the blaze, and when firefighters arrived, the roof of the home was “well involved” by fire, and smoke could be seen from blocks away, said Ron Harder, a spokesman for the district.
The family was outside of the home when firefighters arrived, Harder said.
The blaze was under control in about an hour, and many of the family’s personal belongings were salvaged from the fire, he said.
No neighboring structures were damaged, Harder said.
The Red Cross was called to help the family find temporary shelter, Harder said.
As of Tuesday (March 19), the cause of the fire was still being investigated, he said.
The Antonia, Saline Valley and Mehlville fire protection districts and the Rock Township Ambulance District assisted with the call.
