RV fire leads to brief gas pump closure at Eureka QT

An RV caught fire at the QuikTrip gas station in Eureka on Oct. 26.

An RV caught fire at the Eureka QuikTrip on Oct. 26, forcing the gas station to shut down the pumps until late Oct. 27, according to Deputy Chief William Stamberger.

Stamberger said the Eureka Fire Protection District received a call for a RV on fire at the QuikTrip, located at 290 East Fourth Street near Hwy. 109, at about 5 p.m.

Stamberger said the fire was quickly put out, and no one at the scene required medical attention. The RV, which was parked at a gas pump, was destroyed, he said.

“In just a couple of minutes, we were able to extinguish the fire,” Stamberger said. “Employees were able to kill the pumps immediately, so there was no fire spread and the damage was pretty much limited to the total destruction of the vehicle, as well as some of the pumps and little bit of the canopy above the pumps.”

The cause of the fire is unknown, Stamberger said.

“There are so many possible causes when you talk about travel vehicles. It’s hard to diagnose it,” he said. “There are so many ignition sources that could reasonably catch on fire.”
