Eureka Police are investigating the recent theft of a suitcase that contained $6,800 in cash and other valuable items.

A police report said the suitcase went missing after a 66-year-old Eureka man held an estate sale from 9 a.m.-7 p.m. May 20 in the 300 block of North Central Avenue.

The suitcase contained $6,800 in U.S. currency, $250 worth of Euros, a U.S. passport, Greek identity documents and a checkbook, the report said.

The victim was planning a trip to Greece, Lt. David Wilson said.

The company that was hired to run the estate sale told police that its employee did not see anyone leave with the suitcase, which was not part of the sale.

Wilson said the incident is under investigation, but that the police do not have a suspect.

Anyone with information about the theft is asked to call Eureka Police at 636-938-6600.
