Eureka Police recently captured a 17-year-old Eureka man wanted for questioning about an alleged gun charge and resisting arrest. The suspect also was wanted in Texas County on an arrest warrant.
Lt. David Wilson said the man was apprehended after leading police on an approximately 30-minute foot chase.
Police were called about a disturbance around 1 p.m. May 23 in the 300 block of Weber Drive, and when they arrived, the man fled the scene, a report said.
The man was spotted on The Legends Country Club golf course by an officer and a Legends employee, and the officer pursued the suspect on the golf course while four officers created a perimeter to apprehend him, Wilson said.
The man ran about a mile across the course before an officer was able to take him into custody near the Ashton Woods subdivision, Wilson said.
The 17-year-old was being sought for questioning from an April 6 incident where he was suspected of having a gun on school grounds at the Individualized Learning Center, 500 N. Central Ave., in Eureka.
On that date, police tracked a 1988 Crown Victoria to a residence on Weber Drive after being called to the learning center because of a suspicious vehicle on the parking lot.
The man fled from police at the residence, and police found a 9mm semiautomatic Springfield Arms pistol next to the driver’s seat under the armrest, Wilson said.
Eureka Police will seek charges against the man through the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for unlawful use of a weapon and resisting arrest by flight for the April 6 incident, Wilson said.
The man was booked and then turned over to the Texas County Sheriff’s Office on an outstanding warrant for suspected property damage.
