Eureka Police arrested a 33-year-old St. Clair woman for alleged drug possession after stopping a car she was riding in due to it having license plates registered to a different vehicle. A 36-year-old St. Clair man driving the car also was arrested on warrants, police reported.
An officer at about 10:15 p.m. Jan. 20 saw a 2001 Volvo V70 traveling on West Fifth Street with a license plate registered to a 2020 Ford Escape. The officer also learned the driver was wanted by the Pacific Police on a warrant, the report said.
The officer stopped the car on Howerton Lane near West Fifth Street. The man driving the car allegedly told the officer he recently purchased the Volvo and had not registered it yet, according to the report.
When the officer checked the man’s driver’s license to confirm the warrant, he also learned the man was on probation for possession of a controlled substance and receiving stolen property. The driver was arrested, the report said.
The officer also learned the woman was wanted on active warrants, and she was arrested. When the officer searched the Volvo, he allegedly found a pill in a handbag, according to the report.
The woman allegedly told the officer the bag belonged to her, but she said the pill did not belong to her. The man also allegedly said he didn’t know about the pill, the report said.
The two were taken to the Police Station, where they were booked and released. The man posted bond, and the woman was released pending the application for charges, according to the report.
Depending on results of the drug analysis, Eureka Police will seek charges against the woman through the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for possession of a controlled substance, Lt. Michael Tapp said.
