Eureka Police arrested a 57-year-old Union man for alleged drug possession following a traffic stop. An officer stopped the car the man was driving due to it having license plates registered to a different vehicle, police reported.
An officer at about 3 p.m. Jan. 29 reportedly saw a 2003 Infiniti traveling south on Hwy. 109 that had a license plate registered to a 2009 Chevrolet utility pickup. The car also had extensive damage, the report said.
The officer stopped the car in the parking lot of Earthbound Recycling, 25 Truitt Drive. The driver allegedly said he was using someone else’s license plates because he was in the process of registering the Infiniti, according to the report.
The officer discovered the man’s driver’s license had been revoked, and he arrested the man. When the officer searched the car, he found a bag with a white crystal-like substance that was suspected of being methamphetamine, the report said.
The man was taken to the Police Station, where he was booked and released pending the application for a warrant, according to the report.
Depending on results of the drug analysis, Eureka Police will seek charges against the man through the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for possession of a controlled substance, Capt. Michael Werges said. He also said the man was issued summons to appear in Eureka Municipal Court for allegedly using someone else’s vehicle license and driving with a suspended license.
