Eureka Police arrested a 34-year-old Pacific man for alleged possession of illegal drugs and drug paraphernalia following a traffic stop. The items were found in a box that was inside the car, police reported.
An officer stopped a 2000 Chevrolet Malibu at about 10:40 a.m. Nov. 1 after allegedly seeing the driver drift over the center line at least two times. The car was stopped on eastbound I-44, the report said.
The man driving the car allegedly told the officer that his license had been revoked. The man said he was driving the passenger in the car to the emergency room because the other man’s leg was swelling, according to the report.
Eureka Fire Protection District personnel transported the passenger to an area hospital, the report said.
The man who was driving was arrested after the officer confirmed that his driver’s license was revoked. When the Malibu was searched, an officer allegedly found a black box that had five pill capsules suspected of containing heroin or fentanyl and two glass smoking pipes with residue, according to the report.
The man was taken to the Police Station, where he was booked and released pending the application for a warrant, the report said.
Depending on results of the drug analysis, Eureka Police will seek charges against the man through the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia, Capt. Michael Werges said.
He also said the man was issued summons to appear in Eureka Municipal Court for allegedly driving with a revoked license, failing to register a motor vehicle and failure to maintain financial responsibility.
