Eureka Police arrested a 53-year-old man and 45-year-old woman, both of O’Fallon, for alleged drug possession after finding what appeared to be methamphetamine and fentanyl in a car they were in at the QuikTrip gas station, 290 E. Fourth St. A juvenile boy was allegedly traveling with the pair, police reported.
An officer at about 1:25 p.m. July 8 saw a 1999 BMW that had license plates registered to a 2012 Chevrolet Equinox. When the driver approached the car, the man was sitting in the driver’s seat, and the woman was in the passenger’s seat, the report said.
The two allegedly told the officer the man had not been driving the car, and after being told they had switched seats, the officer discovered the man’s driver’s license had been revoked. However, when the officer reviewed the gas station’s surveillance video, he saw that the man had driven the car to the gas station, according to the report.
The officer arrested the man for driving with a revoked license. When the officer asked the woman to get out of the car to allow him to search it, she allegedly grabbed two bags from the car, the report said.
When the officer searched the car, he allegedly found a crystal-like substance that appeared to be meth. After finding the substance, the officer retrieved the bags from the woman, according to the report.
When the officer searched the bags, he allegedly found a glass pipe with residue, two bags with a crystal-like substance inside them and three bags that had pills that appeared to be fentanyl. The woman was then arrested, but she was released at the scene to remain with the juvenile after the man allegedly said the suspected drugs belonged to him, the report said.
The man was taken to the Police Station, where he was booked and released pending the application for warrants, according to the report.
Depending on results of the drug analysis, Eureka Police will seek charges against the man and woman through the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and endangering the welfare of a child, Lt. Brett Grittini said. He also said Eureka Police will seek a charge for driving with a revoked license against the man.
