A 33-year-old Eureka man allegedly was found with methamphetamine during a traffic stop near the Windswept Farm subdivision. The man, who was driving a pickup, was stopped because of a recent rash of thefts from vehicles in the subdivision, Eureka Police reported.
An officer saw the green 1999 Ford F-150 enter the subdivision at about 2:30 a.m. April 24, and the driver proceeded slowly through the subdivision until it appeared he saw the police cruiser. Then, the man accelerated through a roundabout and left the subdivision, the report said
The officer followed the pickup onto Hwy. 109 and pulled it over on Legends Parkway. The officer said the driver and a 37-year-old Eureka man who was a passenger in the pickup told him they were driving through the neighborhood looking to pick up discarded plywood, according to the report.
The driver allegedly said, “If it is in the street, it is fair game,” Eureka Police reported.
The driver’s license had been revoked, and he was wanted on warrants from the Eureka and Pacific police departments. When the driver was arrested, a container fell out of his pocket, and it was filled with a white crystal-like powder believed to be meth, the report said.
The passenger also was wanted on a warrant from Pacific Police, according to the report.
The men were taken to the Police Station, where they were booked and held for Pacific Police. Depending on results of the drug analysis, Eureka Police will seek charges through the Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office against the 33-year-old man for possession of a controlled substance, Lt. Michael Werges said.
