Eureka Police arrested a 42-year-old Valley Park man for suspicion of driving while intoxicated after stopping him on I-44. The man allegedly nearly hit another vehicle on the interstate before the officer stopped him, police reported.
At about 12:50 a.m. Jan. 27, an officer saw a 2009 Mazda 6 fail to maintain a single lane on Hwy. 109 as it approached the eastbound ramp for I-44. The officer followed the car onto I-44, and the man allegedly swerved onto the shoulder at least two times, continued to slow down and speed up and nearly hit another vehicle, the report said.
The officer stopped the man near the Lewis Road exit ramp. The officer allegedly smelled alcohol on the man’s breath, and the man refused to perform field sobriety tests, according to the report.
The officer arrested the man and took him to the Police Station, where he was booked and released to a sober driver, the report said.
Eureka Police issued the man summonses to appear in Eureka Municipal Court for alleged improper lane use and DWI, Capt. Michael Werges said.
