The Eureka Police arrested a 32-year-old Imperial woman for suspicion of driving while under the influence. Officers arrested her after being told she nearly hit several vehicles in the Emerald Oaks subdivision, police reported.

Officers were called at about 8:25 p.m. Feb. 27 to Emerald Oaks Court, and the person who called the police pointed out the 2016 Honda Civic that was allegedly driving erratically. Before the officer could approach the car, the woman drove away south on Emerald Oaks Court on the left side of the street in the wrong direction, the report said.

The officer followed the Civic to Hwy. 109. As the officer followed the car on the highway, the woman continuously changed lanes before stopping at a traffic signal near Fifth Street, according to the report.

At the traffic signal, the officer told the woman to turn onto Fifth Street and pull over. After she pulled over, the woman told the officer she was trying to see her friend who lives off Hwy. M, which is in Jefferson County and a significant distance from where she was traveling, the report said.

The woman allegedly seemed confused, but the officer did not smell alcohol. However, the woman allegedly failed field tests, but when the officer performed a preliminary breath test, no alcohol was detected, according to the report.

When the officer searched the car, he allegedly found a marijuana cigarettes and an electric smoking device, commonly referred to as dab pens. The woman allegedly said she had one hit of weed earlier, and that she performed poorly on the field tests because she was sleep deprived and has anxiety, the report said.

The woman was arrested and taken to the Police Station. While she was being booked, officers learned she had pleaded guilty to one previous DWI charge, according to the report.

The woman was released to a sober driver after being issued a summons to appear in Eureka Municipal Court for alleged DWI, Capt. Michael Werges said.
