Eureka Police arrested a 23-year-old High Ridge man for suspicion of driving while intoxicated. The man was stopped because the car he was driving allegedly did not have functioning rear lights, police reported.
At about 2 a.m. Jan. 20, an officer allegedly saw a 2021 Nissan Altima that did not have working back lights leave the QuikTrip gas station’s parking lot, 290 E. Fourth St. The officer stopped the car on Hwy. 109 near the westbound I-44 entrance ramp, the report said.
The driver appeared to be intoxicated and refused to perform field sobriety tests. The officer arrested the man, and while searching the car, the officer allegedly saw an empty bottle of Busch Light, two empty shot bottles of Fireball cinnamon whiskey and an empty shot bottle of Skatterbrain dark cherry vanilla whiskey, according to the report.
The man was taken to the Police Station, where he was booked and allegedly registered a .208 percent blood-alcohol content, the report said. In Missouri, .08 percent is the legal limit.
The man was released to a sober driver with a summons to appear in Eureka Municipal Court for alleged DWI and driving without taillights, Capt. Michael Werges said.
