Eureka Police arrested a 68-year-old Catawissa man for alleged drug possession. Officers had stopped the man because a stolen trailer was attached to a pickup he was driving, police said.

At about 7:40 p.m. May 21, officers went to the Dickey Bub Farm and Home store, 100 Hilltop Village Center Drive, after being notified by the Flock license-plate reading camera system that a stolen trailer was in the area. The officers found the 2013 Bartlett trailer attached to a Dodge Ram 2500 that the man was driving, the report said.

The trailer had been reported stolen out of University City, and the trailer’s vehicle identification number had been covered by spray paint, according to the report.

The man told the officers a friend had given him the trailer, but the friend was dead. He later said he bought the trailer from a different person, the report said.

The pickup and trailer both had Illinois license plates, but the man allegedly did not have any proof that he owned either the Ram or trailer. The man also was wanted on a warrant by the Byrnes Mill Police, according to the report.

The man was arrested, and when an officer searched the Ram, he allegedly found a pipe and a medicine bottle that had a crystal-like substance inside it, the report said.

The man was taken to the Police Station, where he was booked and released pending the application for a warrant, according to the report.

Depending on results of the drug analysis, Eureka Police will seek charges against the man through the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for possession of a controlled substance, Lt. Michael Tapp said.
