Eureka Police patch

A 20-year-old Eureka man, who was pulled over after an accident, is facing charges for driving while intoxicated. At about 11:10 a.m. Aug. 20, Eureka Police were called to Eagle Wing Court after a Mazda 3 was involved in an accident, a report said.

Eureka Police spotted a vehicle matching the description of the Mazda involved in the accident traveling east on Fifth Street and pulled the driver over in a parking lot in the 100 block of Eureka Towne Center Drive. The Mazda had extensive damage and a flat tire, the report said.

The man got out to check his flat tire then returned to the car. As officers approached him in the car, they noticed a smell of alcohol and the driver allegedly had bloodshot eyes and slurred speech, the report said.

The man failed a field sobriety test and refused to take a breathalyzer. He was taken to the Eureka Police station where he was booked and issued a summons to appear in Municipal Court for DWI, Eureka Police Lt. David Wilson said.

The man was later released to a family member, and the car was towed from the Eureka Towne Center parking lot, Wilson said.
