Antonio Sanchez Casto, 28, of Eureka has been charged with allegedly driving while intoxicated following an accident that injured two people. Casto and another person involved in the accident were taken to an area hospital after the crash, according to court documents.
Casto has been charged with DWI resulting in a physical injury and DWI resulting in a serious physical injury, both felonies. As of March 29, he was being held in the St. Louis County Jail and a bond review hearing was scheduled for April 2, court records show.
According to a probable-cause statement filed by Eureka Police, Casto on March 25 was driving west on West Fifth Street. He allegedly was driving at 70 mph in a 40-mph zone.
Casto allegedly hit a vehicle that was turning left onto West Fifth Street from Eureka Towne Center Drive. The driver of the vehicle that was hit was cut on the face, and a passenger was transported to an area hospital due to injuries, the report said.
Casto also was transported to an area hospital, according to the report.
Officers allegedly saw numerous Modelo beer bottles in Casto’s vehicles. At the hospital, Casto told officers he drank three beers before the accident, but he later said he drank six beers, the report said.
The Eureka Police report said Casto is not in the U.S. legally.
