A 22-year-old Eureka man was arrested for suspicion of driving while intoxicated and alleged drug possession after he followed a woman, who he said cut him off, to the Walmart store, 131 Eureka Towne Center Drive, in Eureka, police reported.
At about 9:50 p.m. June 18, a woman driving an SUV drove up to an officer in the parking lot and told him a man driving a 2005 GMC Sierra had been honking at her, making crude hand gestures and cutting her off on Fifth Street. The officer saw the Sierra enter the lot behind the SUV, and the man driving the pickup drove toward the officer and woman while they were talking, the report said.
The man driving the pickup told the officer the woman had cut him off when she pulled out of the Phillips 66 gas station, 301 W. Fifth St. While talking to the man, the officer allegedly saw two alcoholic beverages in the center console and one of the beverages was open, according to the report.
The man allegedly told the officer that he only took a sip of the open beverage. When the officer looked in the pickup again, he allegedly saw a bag containing a white powdery substance, the report said.
The officer arrested the man, and when he searched the pickup, the officer allegedly found a second bag containing a white powdery substance. The man allegedly told the officer there was cocaine in the bags, according to the report.
The man was taken to the Police Station, where he was booked and released pending the application for a warrant, the report said.
Depending on results of the drug analysis, Eureka Police will seek charges against the man through the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for possession of a controlled substance and alleged DWI, Chief Michael Werges said.
