A 42-year-old Eureka man allegedly registered twice the legal limit for blood-alcohol content after being arrested for suspicion of driving while intoxicated. The man was stopped after an officer saw him drive a pickup off the road, Eureka Police reported.

At about 12:40 a.m. Oct. 19, an officer saw the man driving a 2011 Ford F-150 east on West Fifth Street. When the man made a left turn at the intersection of Hilltop Village Center Drive, he left the road and drove on the grass before getting back onto the road, the report said.

The officer stopped the man in the parking lot of the JP Sports Bar and Grill, 95 Hilltop Village Center Drive. The man initially told the officer he was driving home from a friend’s house, but the man later said he was driving from a bar and admitted he shouldn’t have been driving because he “drank way too much,” according to the report.

The man allegedly failed field sobriety tests and was arrested. He was taken to the Police Station, where he was booked and allegedly registered a .213 percent blood-alcohol content, the report said.

In Missouri, .08 percent is the legal limit.

The man was released to a sober driver with summons to appear in Eureka Municipal Court for alleged DWI and failing to provide proof of insurance, Capt. Michael Tapp said.
