A 56-year-old Eureka man was arrested for suspicion of driving while intoxicated after he attempted to pay a White Castle employee with napkins. The man allegedly registered a .201 percent blood-alcohol content, Eureka Police reported.
In Missouri, .08 percent is the legal limit.
The employee called the police at about 10:20 p.m. Jan. 7 after the man left the restaurant, 78 Hilltop Village Center Drive, in a blue 2013 Chevrolet Equinox. An officer, who was in the area, saw the SUV leave the restaurant and followed the man on eastbound West Fifth Street, the report said.
The man pulled into the turning lane on West Fifth Street with the SUV’s left turn signal on. However, the man did not turn and instead continuously stepped on the brake and releasing it, despite no vehicles preventing him from turning, according to the report.
The officer turned on his cruiser’s emergency lights and sirens before getting out to approach the SUV. The man did not realize the officer was standing next to the Equinox at first, and when he noticed the officer, the man allegedly appeared intoxicated, the report said.
The man pulled over to the side of the road, and he allegedly failed field sobriety tests and was arrested. He was taken to the Police Station, where he was booked and released to a sober driver, according to the report.
The man was issued a summons to appear in Eureka Municipal Court for alleged DWI, Capt. Michael Werges said.
