Elijah Curtis, 18, of Arnold has been charged with two felonies for allegedly shooting into a home in the Starling Community Mobile Home Park off Starling Airport Road in Arnold. Two people were in the home when the shots were fired into it, and a woman was nearly struck by the gunfire, Arnold Police reported.
On Nov. 14, the Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office charged Curtis with unlawful use of a weapon, a class B felony punishable by five to 15 years in prison, and armed criminal action, an unclassified felony that carries a penalty of three to 15 years in prison, court records show.
As of Thursday, Nov. 21, Curtis was being held without bond at the Jefferson County Jail in Hillsboro.
Police were called at about 7 p.m. Nov. 13 to the mobile home community for a report of “shots fired.” After road patrol officers confirmed the report, detectives went to the mobile home park and arrested Curtis, according to Arnold Police.
According to the probable-cause statement in the case, Curtis had been drinking alcohol to celebrate his birthday. He had left a home and walked toward a shed in the backyard before allegedly firing eight shots at the shed. The bullets went through the shed, and several of the bullets went into a home that was 61 feet east of the shed, the report said.
A woman was sitting at a vanity in a bedroom when the bullets went into the home, and she was hit by shattered glass. Another person in the home pulled the woman out of the bedroom and called 911, according to the report.
Surveillance video reportedly showed Curtis jumping a fence and stashing the gun under a house next to the one he had come out of before shooting at the shed. He allegedly told detectives the gun under the home was his and he bought it for $250, the probable-cause statement said
