Arnold Police arrested a 46-year-old East St. Louis, Ill., man for allegedly driving while intoxicated on drugs after he crashed a car in a wooded area in the 400 block of Bluffview Heights in Arnold. The incident happened about 6:30 p.m. Oct. 5, police reported.
The man was driving a 1995 Ford Taurus that went off the road and between two homes before striking a tree and damaging the left side of the car. The man allegedly tried to run away, but police officers apprehended him a short time later, the report said.
The suspect appeared to be under the influence of drugs and allegedly was found with a substance believed to be crack cocaine, as well as with drug paraphernalia, the report said.
The man was transported to Mercy Hospital South (formerly St. Anthony’s Medical Center) in south St. Louis County to be treated for injuries he sustained in the accident. The man submitted to a blood test at the hospital, according to the report.
Pending lab results, Arnold Police will seek charges against the man through the Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for DWI on drugs and possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia, as well as for and driving without a license, Lt. Clinton Wooldridge said.
